Rhino

Sep 05 2005

So I finally did something that I’ve been talking about for over a year. Yesterday I went out and bought a new bike and, barring a torrential downpour, tomorrow I’ll start riding to work again.

With more than a little help from my significantly-more-expert-than-me brother, I bought a 26”, 15-gear, full-suspension aluminium-framed Rhino B2Xtreme from Toys’R’Us of all places. While they might not stock the range of bikes and accessories that somewhere like Halfords does, bikes at the cheaper end of the scale are very competitively priced; mine was half-price in their sale.

Now I know I’m not the only web designer who has been considering buying a bike recently – so come on, guys!

Ow

In other rhino-related news, this morning I woke up feeling like one was tap-dancing on my head. In retrospect, and speaking as someone who averages one glass of wine a night, perhaps the five pints of Stella I had at last night’s wedding reception wasn’t the best idea in the world.

Still – a nice bath, the Italian Grand Prix and a Cornetto seemed to sort me out nicely by mid-afternoon. Never again and all that, of course…

Movie night

It’s a surprisingly good film day today for us terrestrial UK watchers; Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid – one of my all-time favourite films of all time – was on earlier this afternoon; and then at 10pm tonight ITV are showing the absolute must-see classic, Jaws.

Altogether now – “we’re gonna need a bigger boat”...

My beast is now on order – all I’ve got to do now is figure out where to park it at work and how not to die of a heart attack for the first week or two.

And how to put it together when it arrives, of course (unless it comes ready-assembled)!

It took my brother (ex-Halfords bike expert) a good half-an-hour to put it all together and calibrate the gears…

Ah hell, you’re joking. I’m totally incompetent at anything practical. Better start creeping to my Father-in-law then :o(

You’ve got a weird ‘preview’ problem with your comments by the way – everytime I preview my comment it removes my name and email address from their respective input elements.

Sorry – you could probably pay the guy in the local bike shop a tenner to do it for you. :)

I’m not fixing anything on this site at the moment – it’ll all be torn down in November to make way for Version 3 anyway…
