Reboot 2005 - The Highlights
Because I’ve got access to the CSS Reboot development area, I’m seeing the redesigns come in prior to the site going live, and there are some great sites being relaunched today.
I’ll be updating this list as the day progresses with my personal favourites out of the 400 or so 468 submissions:
- Triplux by Michael Green – lovely muted take on the wicked-worn look, with some truly killer content (check out his 1001 Day Project if you’re in need of inspiration)
- Focus on the Clouds by Matt Harris – incredibly subtle :hover effects and some lovely photography
- MacZealots.com by Ryan J Bonnell does a great job of translating Apple’s incredible information design into a Mac community site
- Spilt Cocoa by Alastair Touw is just incredible, a standout design (and he says he doesn’t want to design for a living!)
- BetoBeto.com by Alberto González might seem a little cramped, but I find it has a really great character
- Ben Saunders is just really clean and smooth, with a sweet Flash header
- Scott McDaniel is another great photojournal-based site – it does a nice job of identifying user tasks on the homepage
As the number of live submissions grows, man I am glad I used Ajax for the voting – it just improves the user experience so much! – I don’t think I could stand having to wait for the page to reload each time I voted…

- Nice redesign. I was wondering what you meant by Reboot Development Area? Did I miss something, was there a place to upload our redsigns images to after signing up?
There is very nice work in the 90 entries on the home page but what about the other 400?
Thanks - #3

- Ignore the last comment.
Just talked to Adam and found out I missed the email about sending in a screen shot when the site was live. I really didn’t get it, so it might have happened to others too.
But is all swell now. Thx. - #4

- Scott: (great site btw) the remaining 400-odd site thumbnails will appear over the next day or so – it takes a while to get through that many sites! (and Photoshopping every screengrab…)

- Matthew, glad you liked our design!
Out of all the comments and feedback we’ve gotten so far, it’s encouraging to see how many people like the stark beauty of our simple and uncluttered design — you couldn’t have summarized our thoughts any better.
Thanks for drawing attention to our site, and congrats on your own redesign. - #6

- Two things:
1) The tab order on your comment form is off. I tab from email to comment, and tabbing from “web” gets me to the header link.
2) For those of us who did miss the email—what are we supposed to do and send it where, what? - #8

- Jeff: You need to send a 200×140 .gif thumbnail of your rebooted site to either me or Adam; then we can add you to the gallery.

- Cool—a little note on the home page for CSSReboot.com might be helpful for others. ;)

- Jeff, the URL you’re using here and the one you submitted are different – can you let me know if you would like to change your site in the Reboot database?
