Logo and branding fiddling
Nov 14 2004

Thinking about the redesign of the site, this evening I’ve been playing with ideas for iconography.
What do you reckon to these, and which is your favourite of the three? They’re all supposed to be a stylized ‘W’, by the way.

- Well my preference is for the right-hand one just because it looks so happy. I feel the left-hand one is too abstract. I’m not sure I would recognise it as a _W_ unless you had said though that could depend on the situation it was used in. Would there be any colours added cuz that could make a big difference?

- I don’t know about the colour scheme yet – but the icon would be used for stuff like bullets or header widgets, so it would probably be done in a variety of colours and styles.
I like the right-hand one because of the smiley face too, but my wife prefers the middle one.
It’s also been said that the left-hand one looks a bit military, which I guess could be extended into a thematic device for the site. - #2

- I honestly didn’t know any of them were supposed to be a W until I read that.
The one on the left looks like the old Transformers (I think) logo. The one in the middle looks like the symbol on my laptop power button. My vote is for the smiley. - #4

- Do you mean this one, Jeff:
;o)
Looks like the smiley face is the way to go, then – I’d better get cracking on some more happy metaphors for the rest of the site… - #5

- I don’t like the smiley face – especially the long nose. Looks rather goofy. The middle one is too thin. The one on the left is nice, it reminds me of a coat-of-arms.

- I don’t like the smiley face either. I much prefer the one on the left.
I had no idea these were representations of the letter “W” until I read that in your post. - #7
